Victim Thwarts Attempted Theft
A would-be victim successfully thwarted an attempt to steal property from his residence Sunday evening.
Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that deputies were summoned to a home on Clifton Road around 9:30 p.m.
The resident reported a relative had come to his home earlier that day and had been in and out of the house several times. He said he realized he had not seen the man for some time, went outside, and found a truck in his driveway.
The victim told deputies that the relative was standing beside another man. As he came out, he said the other man reached toward the ground, then placed an item into the truck bed. He told deputies he asked what the item was, but that neither answered.
When the victim checked the truck, he said he found his Tradesman brand, ten inch miter saw in the rear. He told deputies he retrieved the saw and that the man left when he said he was calling to report the attempted theft. Deputies noted that the relative had also left prior to their arrival.
Investigation into the crime is on-going at the present time.
